SFMB Organic

SFMB Organic is a full-scale remodel by Ethan Charles Design of a 1960s ranch home in Northridge, California. Completed over six months, the project strips the house back and rebuilds it around a family with a clear long view—adding a true primary suite and expanding the kitchen so the plan can grow without losing coherence.

Oak, marble, quartzite, and handmade tile establish an organic warmth that feels earned rather than layered on. Those materials set tonal and textural relationships throughout the remodel: wood grain against stone, handmade tile against quieter surfaces, and a palette that should deepen with use. The expanded kitchen becomes the daily work surface of the house; the primary suite is planned as a retreat.

Within that suite, a custom closet of faux linen cabinetry and backlit glass cabinets reads closer to a boutique than a storage room. A steam shower with five heads supports daily ritual rather than occasional spa theater. A moody guest bath, by contrast, is tuned for longer soaks and slower evenings—proof that adjacent rooms can hold different tempos without breaking the overall material story.
