About the Project

Artist Retreat is a wellness-focused residential interiors project at Cathead Bay, Michigan, by And And And Studio. Set along a private walkway to Lake Michigan, the work aims for a cabin-like atmosphere while framing often snow-covered forest views of the Great Lakes landscape.

The studio organized interiors across a series of deconstructed pavilion volumes for a couple who wanted to change how they live and work. Zones for restoration and focused work acknowledge different daily rhythms, with art and a peripatetic life kept close at hand. Material choices favor honesty and restraint; wood from the surrounding forest continues into clean-lined interior rooms so the cabin feeling is carried by construction as much as by mood.

Details were developed in close dialogue with the artist and their partner so everyday use, not display, drives the interiors. The project reads as a Michigan retreat where place, craft, and the clients’ creative habits set the tone for architecture’s quieter interior counterpart.
