12 photos1890 Victorian hotel in Hopland revived with eighteen rooms, a café, outbuildings, and grounds that braid preserved history with modern craft.
The historic Thatcher Hotel is an 1890 Victorian in Hopland with eighteen rooms and deliberately delightful common areas. Medium Plenty’s work encompassed a substantial remodel inside and out, construction of a café and outbuildings, and a re-imagining of the surrounding grounds—hospitality architecture treated as a campus rather than a single façade update.
Collaboration with the owners—a renowned craftsperson in concrete and an experienced developer—extended across design, interiors, landscaping, branding, and operations. Original details were preserved and interwoven with modern elements so the revival pays homage to the hotel’s roots, the town of Hopland, and the surrounding countryside without freezing the building in period costume.
Completed in 2021 under a Hospitality architecture and interior design scope, the project lists landscape by Terremoto, lighting design by Ohm Light & Medium Plenty, concrete elements by Concreteworks, custom furniture by Alexis Moran, and photography by Melissa Kaseman. Thatcher Hotel shows Medium Plenty’s holistic hospitality method: history kept legible, craft brought forward, and guest life extended into café, grounds, and outbuildings. The project is sited in Hopland, California. Medium Plenty records the project year as 2021.
