About the Project

Basswood Revival transforms a 1970s tract home in Oak Park, California, into the forever home its owners had envisioned. Ethan Charles Design led a full-scale remodel and kitchen-enlarging addition over eight months: the footprint grew, the kitchen moved, and details were reconsidered room by room.

A moody powder bath opens the narrative with bold tile and deliberate choices—nothing accidental. In the kitchen, an angled quartz island (wrapped in quartz and noted as a favorite piece) anchors the plan with understated confidence that carries through the rest of the house. Relocating and enlarging the kitchen reorders circulation so cooking, gathering, and passage feel intentional rather than inherited from the original tract layout.

The project balances contemporary and vintage registers without forcing a single mood. Refined surfaces sit beside livable planning; the remodel respects that this is a home meant to be used, not only photographed. As California residential interior design and home renovation, Basswood Revival shows Ethan Charles Design working at full-house scale—addition, kitchen relocation, and material focus on tile and quartz—while keeping the listing factual to what the studio publishes about scope, place, and standout pieces.
