Tripod House

Tripod House is a single-family residence in Portland’s Hillsdale neighborhood by Fieldwork Design & Architecture, designed for two photographers. Architecture, furniture, and interiors are included in the published scope.

The house is organized as three offset pods with distinct functions around a central courtyard. The north-facing court is set back from the street as a quieter outdoor room within the wooded site. Main living spaces open through large south-facing picture windows toward on-site greenery and Portland’s West Hills beyond. Glass thresholds and outdoor living spaces keep the surrounding trees in the daily circuit of the house.

Circulation is deliberate: rooms appear along a path rather than in one open volume, and full-height openings frame views in the manner of a camera lens. Collaborators listed by Fieldwork include PLACE and KPFF. Photography by Jeremy Bittermann.

Tripod House received the IIDA Design Excellence Awards Best in Category for Living — Single Family. It was covered by Portland Monthly Magazine in April 2022 and by ArchDaily the same month.
