About the Project

Studio Modijefsky designed three Connector spaces on floors 6, 7 and 8 of the Booking.com Campus on Amsterdams Oosterdokseiland—not the full 65,000 m workplace. UNStudio designed the building; HofmanDujardin led the interior masterplan and invited other practices, including Studio Modijefsky, to develop discrete zones. The Connectors sit on the southeast edges of the building, with daylight and views over East Amsterdam. Each doubles as a meeting room and a place to pause, reset and move.

HofmanDujardin’s brief asked for an inclusive campus. Studio Modijefsky treated the Connectors as places where work and physical play share one room. Unusual tools for movement and interaction sit beside formal meeting furniture, so staff can switch between concentration and release without leaving the floor. The studio also curated styling for each Connector, placing objets trouvs that are both decorative and usable.

Each floor takes a travel destination as its material and spatial cue. Floor 6, Tuscany, follows a curved parquet line. Warm earth colours, waste-material bricks and recycled felt panels shape the meeting zone; terracotta claddings and window foil give the meeting room more privacy while the play area stays visible beyond. Geometric seating, a slack line, climbing poles inspired by cypress trees and hay-bale forms encourage stretch, balance and casual gathering. Half-circle units join into a round meeting table that echoes the playground geometry.

Floor 7, Cape Town, is the most physical. Peach rubber flooring with blue and red accents supports a bouldering wall, punch bag, pull-up benches and a gymnastic bar grid overlooking the water. Recycled marine felt and wooden waste panels appear beside structural plywood with colourful grips and a wall-integrated checkers board.

Ping-pong and football tables occupy the centre; the meeting room continues the deep blue palette with an orthogonal table and stepped waste-wood platforms for informal talks or presentations.

Floor 8, Dead Sea, emphasises calm and unusual movement: pastel colours, round forms, soft rugs, rubber flooring marked with white ripple lines, an aerial hoop, rings and poles. Recycled felt and anthracite waste bricks form soft linear wall fields; curved seating steps link playground and meeting area, ending at a sculpted oval table.

Areas are 335 m² (floor 6), 375 m (floor 7) and 305 m² (floor 8). Realised June 2023 for client Booking.com. Photography by Maarten Willemstein. The campus later won MIPIM Awards 2025 Best Workplace Experience.
