The Mayfair Townhouse

The Mayfair Townhouse is a boutique hotel interior by Goddard Littlefair in London’s Mayfair district. The design task was to restore the interiors of the linked townhouses and knit them into a coherent whole that recreates a Georgian spirit without freezing the buildings as museum pieces. The team researched personalities associated with the original inhabitants of the area and drew on figures such as Oscar Wilde and his contemporary aesthetes. Flamboyant dressing, a pursuit of beauty and an eccentric social culture of that milieu become organising ideas for fabric choices, colour, intricate detailing and subtle layering throughout guest and public rooms.

A rich colour palette and intermittent flashes of detail are used to suggest extrovert character beneath a composed Mayfair exterior—what the studio characterises as the adventurous mischief of the dandy.
