Trama House
Trama House, designed by 404 Arquitectura, is a single-family residence located within a private condominium in La Molina, a district of Lima characterized by a mountainous landscape and a warmer, drier climate compared to the coastal areas of the city. The project responds to a client request for a house that feels protected and introverted toward the exterior while remaining open, generous, and human-centered on the inside.
The architectural concept is defined by a strong, linear concrete element that crosses the site as an “inhabited beam.” This structural and spatial gesture organizes the house through a sequence of shadows, thresholds, and transitional spaces, establishing a clear relationship between mass and void. Rather than being fragmented, the house is conceived as a continuous system where circulation, structure, and experience are integrated into a single architectural operation.
This concrete volume acts as the primary organizing device, structuring both public and private spaces while shaping the internal spatial atmosphere. The design carefully balances enclosure and openness, using patios and voids to introduce light and ventilation into the interior. These intermediate spaces create a layered experience, allowing the house to maintain privacy from its surroundings while still establishing a strong connection to light, air, and landscape.
Spatial sequencing plays a central role in the project. Movement through the house is choreographed through a series of thresholds, where shifts in light, shadow, and enclosure define different moments of inhabitation. The use of patios as organizing elements reinforces this experience, blurring the boundaries between interior and exterior while maintaining a sense of controlled intimacy.
Materiality is intentionally reduced to emphasize clarity and permanence. The exposed concrete structure defines both the architectural language and the spatial experience, reinforcing the idea of the house as a monolithic yet permeable system. Through this approach, Trama House achieves a balance between solidity and openness, creating a contemporary dwelling that is both introspective and spatially rich.
