LUAA House is a residential project designed by Ana Smud, located in the residential neighborhood of Vicente López. The project is conceived around a central idea: establishing a fluid and continuous relationship between the house and its surrounding garden, transforming the vegetation into an active spatial component rather than a background element.
The architecture is defined as an autonomous and compact volume, where transparency becomes the dominant architectural language. By pulling the structural columns inward, the perimeter is freed and allows glass to prevail, dissolving the physical boundary between interior and exterior. This decision enables the house to be fully contained within its own garden, creating a condition where the built space expands visually into the landscape.
At ground level, the house is perceived as a fully transparent pavilion. Continuous glazing on all sides establishes a strong visual connection with the enclosed garden, generating reflections and layered views that amplify the sense of space. The interior is organized with low-height elements such as kitchen bases, desks, and built-in furniture, ensuring that visual continuity toward the vegetation remains uninterrupted.
As the house rises, the spatial experience becomes progressively more intimate. The first floor introduces a filtered relationship with the exterior through the use of wood, where vertical textures and controlled openings modulate light and views. Here, the presence of existing trees plays a key role, shaping the atmosphere by filtering sunlight and creating a dynamic interplay of shadows within the interior.
On the upper level, the architecture becomes dematerialized once again. The retreat of the enclosure allows the vegetation and sky to re-enter the spatial composition, offering expansive views and reinforcing the dialogue between the built form and its natural surroundings.
The project ultimately operates through three distinct spatial conditions—fully transparent, filtered, and open—each corresponding to a different way of inhabiting the relationship between interior and exterior. Through this layered approach, LUAA House transforms a constrained urban plot into a self-contained micro-landscape where architecture and nature exist in continuous interaction.
