Black Walnut | Sumparwood Outdoor Material

Black Walnut | Depth around a lighter surface

Black Walnut is the deep brown finish in Sumparwood, a proprietary wood-like material for outdoor furniture development. The finish gives a frame a clear visual presence beside lighter upholstery, while leaving room for grain and rounded details to remain visible.

Read the frame closely

The chair detail brings the arm, upright and pale upholstered surface into one view. The dark structure traces the edge of the softer volume. For a new collection, consider whether that outline should lead the design or sit more quietly behind the fabric. Black Walnut is the finish name, not a statement that the material is natural walnut wood.

Green, texture and small highlights

Michael Lao’s complete mixed-media work brings dark profiles together with green surfaces, a folded fan and small metallic accents. This suggests a richer pairing conversation than a single dark swatch can provide. Explore green upholstery, a darker stone reference or a restrained metallic detail, then check the selected materials together in your own light.

A wider application view

The dining scene shows the finish direction across a table and upholstered chairs in a shaded outdoor room. The separate pairing board places the dark tone beside cream texture, charcoal surfaces and a brass-coloured accent. Both are visual references from the Sumparwood palette, rather than records of a completed client project or specifications for the pictured assembly.

Bring the contrast into your design

Start with the component that carries the outline: an arm, rail, leg or table edge. Profile, machining, joint and controlled forming options are reviewed with the workshop for the proposed dimensions, construction and exposure.
