9 photosBoisson Bottle Shop is a specialty retail interior in Los Angeles designed by Studio Paul Chan in 2022 for Boisson’s first Los Angeles store—a contemporary non-alcoholic bottle shop. The project draws on Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch and Pierre Chareau’s Maison de Verre to stage a retail experience that mixes tradition with a slightly surreal ritual of selecting non-alcoholic wine.
The layered narrative pairs artisanal materials with machine-made elements as a conceptual parallel between non-alcoholic drinks and conventional wine culture. Stained wood wall panels with Deco-inspired fixtures stand before dusty emerald green limewash walls, introducing cadence across the tall interior. Walnut-stained panels help scale the high-ceilinged volume and set wood against thin metal shelves, so natural and industrial surfaces remain in visible dialogue rather than collapsing into a single finish language.
At the reception, a custom glass-block cash wrap glows as a street-facing attractor. Steel structure infilled with hundreds of glass blocks creates a warm ambient threshold reminiscent of Maison de Verre, while the curved Pipistrello Table Lamp by Gae Aulenti softens the wrap’s geometry against straighter architectural lines. Chan’s approach privileges ordinary materials used in unexpected ways, treating light and shadow as active design ingredients that can make heavy assemblies feel unexpectedly light.

The finished Los Angeles specialty retail interior frames non-alcoholic wine shopping as gallery-like commercial interior design—ordered, material-rich, and deliberately uncanny without theatrical excess.
