About the Project

Hakken Café and Store is a mixed-use cafe and retail project by Studio Kota Architecture on the outskirts of Jakarta, Indonesia. The 200 m² project combines a coffee shop with a vintage thrift store, bringing seating, clothing and collectibles into one shared commercial programme.

The cafe and shop areas extend across two floors. Rather than separating the coffee service from the retail component, Hakken places both uses on the same levels, allowing visitors to sit for coffee and browse merchandise within the same spatial sequence. The project’s programme is described as an inviting and unpretentious setting, with the coffee shop and store arranged to conserve space while supporting movement between the two activities.

Completed in 2023, Hakken Café and Store was led by Erick Kristanto with design team member Tesalonika Halim. The project was built by Qemad - Novema, with manufacturers listed as Dulux, OSB and Propan. Photography is by William Sutanto.
