7 photosIn Clearwater, Florida, PZS Architects designed the growth of BluePearl Veterinary Partners from a 4,000-square-foot clinic into a 16,000-square-foot specialty pet hospital. The new-construction veterinary facility supports canine, feline, avian, and exotic patients with diagnostic and treatment spaces built for multidisciplinary care: X-ray, MRI, endoscopy, and ultrasound suites; a dedicated ICU; and a surgical platform with three fully equipped operating rooms and five surgery tables. Program adjacency keeps emergency intake, imaging, and surgery coordinated for continuous specialty caseloads.
As a veterinary oncology leader, the Clearwater team required spaces equal to complex cancer care—a dedicated oncology ward, an infusion unit, and a fully isolated USP 800-compliant hazardous-drugs facility. Clinical spaces use warm materials and considered finishes so the hospital can perform at a high medical standard without reading as purely institutional. Clearwater’s climate also allows year-round use of secure kennels, play areas, and pet relief spaces outdoors, extending the healing environment beyond the building envelope and giving convalescing animals controlled outdoor time.
Behind the scenes, centralized medical gas distribution—including medical-grade oxygen, nitrogen, and vacuum—supports clinical precision across treatment, surgery, and critical-care zones. The project sits in PZS Architects’ national veterinary portfolio as specialty animal-hospital and healthcare architecture in Clearwater that pairs advanced imaging, surgery, and oncology infrastructure with comfort for pets and the families who bring them. From shell to specialty platform, the Clearwater hospital demonstrates how veterinary architecture can scale a compact clinic into a full-service regional referral destination.
