One Stop Doctors in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, is Goddard Littlefair’s first healthcare interior: a two-storey private outpatient clinic completed in 2016 for One Stop Doctors Ltd. Press coverage from Dexigner and Design Insider states that the studio had just completed the interiors when the project was announced in October 2016, positioning the scheme as the first of a planned series of clinics around the Greater London M25 corridor.

The brief rejected a cool, clinical American clinic model in favour of a patient-centric environment drawing on the firm’s spa and wellness experience. Services gathered under one roof include on-demand medical expertise, outpatient diagnostics, physiotherapy, dentistry and aesthetics, with extended hours intended to suit working patients. AD Architects designed the purpose-built shell; Goddard Littlefair developed the interiors and courtyards in collaboration, and the project later received an SBID Design Award in 2017.

Planning arranges a light-filled interior around an open central courtyard used for contemplation and for companions waiting with patients. A hotel- or spa-like entry lobby introduces a concierge check-in within an ellipse-shaped zone, with warm natural colour progressing to cooler tones in consultation and clinical rooms. Demarcated flooring, portal moments and intuitive circulation reduce reliance on institutional wayfinding. Ground-floor programmes include aesthetics, scanning and referral rooms; dentistry, physiotherapy and a separate first-floor reception share the upper level with back-of-house offices for the operator’s head office.

Verified materials and fittings include cream porcelain and timber-effect flooring, antiqued bronze-patina desks, timber-effect geometric screens, bespoke furniture in velvet, linen, leather and suede, and planting inspired by species associated with medical science.
