Temple’s character sits in the legs: multi-layered wood stacked so the profile shifts as you move around the table. At different angles, the layering reads as small temple-like silhouettes, with light and shadow doing as much work as the plan itself. Designed in 2023 for Lift Loft, Shanghai.

Temple Coffee Table by TONG is a sculptural wooden coffee table designed for Lift Loft in 2023. Created in Shanghai, the piece explores how layered wood can transform a functional furniture element into an expressive architectural form.

The table’s legs are composed through multiple layers of wood, producing shifting silhouettes inspired by temple forms. As the viewing angle changes, light and shadow reveal different readings of the structure, giving the table a dynamic presence despite its compact furniture scale.

Through this layered construction, Temple Coffee Table brings together furniture design, geometry and sculptural expression, turning the supporting structure of the table into its defining visual feature.
