Butler Table

Butler Table by LAUN turns an unexpected furniture material into the defining feature of its silhouette. Inspired by the vivid symbolism of Octavia Butler’s science fiction novel Dawn, the table is formed in polished or powder-coated aluminum and surrounded by oversized fringe made from custom-colored silicone cord. Rather than concealing the silicone—a material more commonly hidden within furniture construction—LAUN brings it to the surface, allowing it to shape both the visual identity and movement of the piece.

The hanging cords create a soft, shifting perimeter around the more precise aluminum structure, giving the compact side table a sense of motion that changes with its surroundings. At 16 inches in diameter and 22 inches high, Butler Table maintains a small footprint while carrying a distinctly sculptural presence. The contrast between rigid metal and flexible silicone gives the design its character: part functional table, part material study, with an unconventional approach to texture, visibility, and construction.

LAUN develops its furniture in collaboration with Los Angeles-based manufacturers, with an emphasis on form, material, and objects suitable for both indoor and outdoor settings.
