7 photosGreen Block of Flats is a residential apartment building by Aristides Dallas Architects in Gazi, Athens, Greece. The proposal is described as a “green” block of flats with zero energy performance, and its status is listed as permit.
The composition is organized around a main building body containing the interior spaces of the residences, with a perforated shell of upcycled wood that contains open and semi-outdoor areas. Volumes facing the Acropolis extend from the main body to provide outdoor expansion for the apartments. A lower volume encloses one residence for privacy, surrounds a green courtyard, and relates to vertical gardens on the first and second floors.
The building mass is divided into two smaller volumes to improve natural sunlight for the apartments and to create alternating indoor, outdoor, and intermediate spaces. Rotated volumes allow planted open areas between them and contribute to privacy. The environmental strategy includes natural lighting, cross ventilation, green zones in open and enclosed spaces, perimeter sheds, perforated elements, and a wooden shading system. At the rear north side, a second skin encloses evergreen climbing planting. Planted roofs, green canopies, balconies, and vertical planting are used inside and outside the building to support the residents’ environment and the local microclimate.
